Richard, "Dick" Gruber grew up in Omaha,
Nebraska. He is number five of nine children. Dick came into a personal
relationship with Jesus Christ at the age of seventeen and has been
serving Jesus and His children ever since. He began his work as a bus
captain, singing songs and hosting Bible quiz games on a Sunday school
bus. Following the children into church, Dick and his girl friend, now
wife, Darlene, assisted with the children's church service.
In 1975, Dick and Darlene were married. A year later, feeling the call
into full time Christian service, Dick and his family, Sarah was born
by then, moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota where he attended North Central
Bible College.
While earning a BS in Interdisciplinary Ministries, Dick and Darlene
served as volunteer, and then paid children's pastors in two different
Twin Cities churches. Soon after graduation, The Grubers moved to a
ministry position at the People's Church in Salem Oregon. There, Dick
directed ministries to over five hundred children weekly. As the key
sponsoring church of Jesus Northwest, the People's Church assigned Dick
the honor of organizing all children's services at this large outdoor
event.
After three incredible years of ministry in Oregon, Dick and Darlene
with their three children, Sarah, Aaron, and Rachel, followed the Lord
once again finding themselves living and ministering in Springfield.
Missouri. In Springfield, Dick served as the Children's Ministries Consultant
for the Assemblies Of God National Sunday School Department. For eight
and a half years, Dick ministered in this position, writing numerous
articles, training helps, and two books, Children's Church: Turning
Your Circus Into A Service, and Focus On Children. While serving in
his denominational headquarters, Dick also volunteered as children's
pastor at a local church.
In 1993 Dick and his family, by now Timothy was added to the crew,
moved to Minnesota, where served as Children's Pastor at Bloomington
Assembly Of God church for eight years. In June, 2001 Dick began his
ministry at Valley Forge Christian College as their Children's Ministries
Specialist.
Dick is a husband, father, pastor, professor, author, poet, composer,
and artist. He has illustrated over twenty discipleship booklets for
children as well as produced numerous Scripture picture Bible memory
helps for Sunday School teachers. Dick and his wife Darlene have ministered
in conventions, camps and crusades throughout the USA, Canada, and Australia.
